This is my boating, fishing and boat building page. Enjoy the pictures.

This is me and captain getting ready to take out our just-built boat for the first time.
Last February 2005, I asked Captain if we could build a boat. He told me that he built 6 boats when he was 12 years old and I wanted to see if he could still do it. He said sure, so we selected free plans from the internet.
The plans were drawn back in the 1960's and were in Science & Mechanics magazine. They were really old, but they showed us everything we needed. This is a 12 foot jon boat. We're going to put a 10-15hp outboard on it.
Here are all the parts cut out and laid on the driveway.
Here, I'm fiberglassing the transom before we nail the boat together.
Fiberglassing is pretty neat. You cut out this white cloth that Captain says is made up of real glass fibers. You put the cloth on the part and then wet it out with resin and it turns clear!
This is the temporary frame that goes in the center of the boat and gives the sides their shape. It is taken out when the transom and stem is nailed in place.
You have to cut a lot of wood to build a boat. Here we are cutting the chines that will be glued and nailed in place at the corner of the bottom and sides.
Here is the basic shape of the boat after we tacked the transom, mold frame, and stem in place. That's the bow stem at the front of the picture.
Well, in 1 month we completed the boat and here we are launching it in the Everglades in March.
Captain said that since it was my boat, I had to drive. It was pretty scary, so I went real slow at first. After a while though, I opened the throttle and the boat really zooms! It's fun!
